Possibly the world’s first attempt at storytelling through such a medium, this work tells the tale of post-disaster trauma.
Haiku poet and scriptwriter Kimiko Nakanaga draws on her own experience of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake to create a story of seeking salvation from suffering.
The work depicts the despair of a woman who has lost her love in a city turned to rubble, through the confused and distorted lens of her mind.
The vivid imagery of the haiku works in tandem with manga artist Atsushi Sasaki’s striking illustrations to masterfully weave reality and fantasy together, in a manner such that reading this work feels like watching a film.
